Devlog #5: Backgrounds, Particles and Charged Enemies!

We are CazuelaGames: cstammp, Kechumax, and xner2000. We're developing Biot-Savart, a 2D platformer where you control a robot that navigates through a laboratory using electromagnetism to interact with platforms and enemies.

What We Have So Far

Last devlog we added a dash mechanic, allowing the player to perform a quick burst of speed to the sides, useful for precise movement and dodging. We also added coyote time, a short grace period after leaving a platform where the player can still jump, making platforming smoother. Additionally, we introduced two new levels that showcase the dash and movement mechanics, and added a goal sprite at the end of each level to clearly indicate the end of the level.

New Features Added

Background sprites and particles:

We added background sprites to the levels, making the environment feel more alive and visually appealing. This improves the overall atmosphere and immersion of the game. Additionally, we implemented particles for the charged areas, giving visual feedback to the player.

Next level button:

The “Next Level” button has been implemented at the end of each level, allowing for a smoother transition between levels without having to return to the level selector.

Charged enemies:

A new enemy type has been added—charged enemies. These enemies interact with the player charge, adding a new layer of challenge and strategy to the gameplay.

Incoming updates:

- Charge responsive particles

- Background SFX
